Faced with growing risks from rolling blackouts, grid instability, and rising energy costs, Bayer’s vegetable research and development site in Woodland, California, needed a more resilient, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solution.

Faced with growing risks from rolling blackouts, grid instability, and rising energy costs, Bayer’s vegetable research and development site in Woodland, California, needed a more resilient, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solution.

To address this need, Bayer partnered with clean energy leader Calibrant to complete a 2.7 MW solar system paired with a 1 MW / 2 MWh battery energy storage system, delivering a hybrid solution that enhances energy resilience, reduces carbon emissions, and lowers energy costs. The integrated solar-plus-storage system is designed to supply approximately 70% of the site’s annual energy needs with clean, renewable electricity, avoid 45 thousand metric tons of CO₂ emissions over the project lifetime. Calibrant owns and operates the assets under a 20-year power purchase agreement, with Bayer offtaking 100% of the solar energy generated.
